David's new CD, "Only Everything" (Decca) featuring Joey DeFrancesco, Steve Gadd, James Taylor & Joss Stone pays tribute to the musicians who most inspired him early in his career - Ray Charles, and his two star saxophonists: Hank Crawford & David "Fathead" Newman. With "Only Everything" Sanborn is getting back in touch with his musical roots with a soulful take on Ray Charles classics like Hallelujah, I Love Her So, Hard Times, Let The Good Times Roll, Baby Won't You Please Come Home, Blues In the Night, and more.

sjvjf2010posterThe 22nd annual San Joaquin Valley Jazz Festival takes place Friday February 5th and Saturday February 6th 2010 at Buchanan High School in Clovis and at the Paul Shaghoian Concert Hall in Fresno. The event features top student jazz ensembles, performing in competition throughout the day, and special headline artists in showcase performances. All events are open to the public. This year's guest artists include the innovative improvisational group Kneebody. The event is produced by the Buchanan High School Jazz Program. Jazz Fresno is a sponsor of the event. lorenblue225 JazzFresno presents saxophonist Loren Pickford, in a rare return visit to his hometown of Fresno, in concert Friday December 11 2009 at the Club One Showroom. Joining Loren for this special event will be David Aus (piano); Kevin Hill (bass) and Gary Newmark (drums). For over 30 years, Loren was one of the most respected and influential jazz artists in Fresno. In the early 1990's he relocated to New Orleans, and has lived since 2005 in Kansas City, after fleeing Hurricane Katrina. This is his first Fresno performance in over two years.

In addition to his concert performance, Loren will also be the subject of a free Conversation With the Artist - Wednesday December 9th, 2009 at the Downtown Fresno Central Library at 7:00 PM. Joe Moore will host an open discussion with Loren, which will culminate in a duo performance with pianist David Aus.

lorenfresno225Join JazzFresno on Wednesday night December 9th 2009 for a Conversation with the Artist event, featuring former Fresno based jazz musician Loren Pickford. The event takes place at 7:00 PM at the Fresno County Central Library's Sarah McCardle Room in Downtown Fresno. The event will feature a discussion with Loren, moderated by 90.7 KFSR's Joe Moore, and a question and answer period. The evening will be capped off with a duo performance by Loren Pickford and pianist David Aus. 

Loren Pickford will also be appearing in concert on Friday December 11th 2009 at the Club One Showroom at 8:00 PM.

untband225On Tuesday, February 2nd, 2010, the Fresno City College music department is honored to present the University of North Texas One O’Clock Lab Band in concert at the FCC Theatre. Doors will open at 7:00 p.m., and the concert will begin at 7:30 p.m. Admission is $18 general, $15 senior/JazzFresno member, and $12 student. The One O’Clock Lab Band is the premier performing ensemble of the internationally acclaimed University of North Texas jazz studies program. Steve Wiest, Grammy-nominated composer and arranger, is director of the One O’Clock Lab Band. With an unprecedented six Grammy nominations (Lab 2009 received double nominations for "Best Large Jazz Ensemble" and "Best Instrumental Composition" for Ice-Nine composed by Steve Wiest) resulting from the library of over fifty critically acclaimed Lab Band recordings to date, the One O’Clock Lab Band is noted for exceptional individual musicianship and tight ensemble performance. One O’Clock Lab Band concerts feature the Stan Kenton and Maynard Ferguson libraries (both housed exclusively at North Texas), original compositions by Grammy-nominated composers Neil Slater and Steve Wiest, and the wealth of compositions and arrangements in our library written by current and former North Texas students.
