A Brief History of the Jazz Drumset
Tuesday October 13th 2009 - 7:00 PM
Featuring a talk and performance by Brian Hamada

From its origins in the early 1900s to the present day, the drum set is arguably the first instrument to be invented to play jazz with. Its evolution mirrors the timeline of the emerging American Musical art form: Jazz.  Focusing on the innovators of the instrument throughout recordings and demonstrations of key rhythmic styles, we will present an educational and vibrant overview of the foundation for all popular music, the drum set.
Woodward Park Regional Library 944 E Perrin Ave (Champlain & Perrin)
Support for Jazz @ the Library comes from the Community Enrichment Program, administered by the Fresno Arts Council

Due to a power outage at the library, this event was canceled. We are rescheduling this same presentation for January 19th 2010.

About the Claudia Quintet:

The Claudia Quintet’s
music demonstrates that “Innovative jazz does not have to be harsh, angry, loud, shrill or grating; it can be delicate, witty, ethereal and radiantly lyric, as the Claudia Quintet pointed out…” [Chicago Tribune].

ponchoThe Tower Theatre presents Poncho Sanchez and his Latin Jazz Band, in concert Friday June 5th at 8:00 PM. For almost two decades as bandleader, he has unswervingly preserved a bedrock style of Afro-Cuban Latin jazz pioneered half a century ago by his heroes, while infusing it with his own fresh and engaging interpretations. Come hear one of the most entertaining and acclaimed jazz stars of today at the historic Tower Theatre. A portion of the proceeds of the event will benefit JazzFresno.

Tickets can be purchased by calling The Tower Theatre Box Office:
