The Fresno Urban Jazz Experience


fujuThe Fresno Urban Jazz Experience reflects the diverse music and culture of the San Joaquin Valley. The group is led by Les Nunes and features Adan Infante (bass); Marco Rodriguez (piano); George Ramirez (drums); Aaron Wall (percussion); Ron Delarm (guitar); Nathan Johnson (trumpet); Gene Doi (saxophone); and Les Nunes (trombone). In Summer 2009, the Fresno Urban Jazz Experience went on a tour of Germany, including a performance at the prestigious WDR Musikfest 2009 in Munster, Fresno's sister city. The group recorded its debut album in Spring 2009 "Live @ 5".

The Fresno Urban Jazz Experience came out of the invitation to trombonist/educator Les Nunes to put together a jazz group to play at the WDR Jazz Festival in Muenster , Germany. The WDR jazz band is one of the most popular Big Bands in Germany and all of Europe. The WDR band are the hosts of a 3 week jazz festival in Muenster, Germany which is the sister city in Germany to Fresno. During this 3 week festival professional and school jazz groups from all over Germany and Europe will perform.

In addition to playing at the jazz festival, the group from Fresno will do an educational workshop at a music school and perform several other gigs while they are there in surrounding cities.

The Fresno Urban Jazz Experience or F.U.J.E. has some of the best musicians in Central California and varies in age from 24 to 53. The groups influences are quite eclectic and are based on Afro-Cuban , Brazilian, Funk, Be-Bop, hip-hop and mainstream jazz. Some of the tunes they will play are written by Dave Samuels, Francisco Torres (Poncho Sanchez), Fred Wesley, Walt Weiskopf, Curt Berg, Amina Figarova, Dori Caymmi, Kenny Garrett and also include compositions from local composers.
