Les Nunes, (CMEA) California Jazz Educator of the Year recipient for 2016, is putting together an all-star band of local musicians to pay tribute to the nearly 40 years of the history of the Crusaders. When they first started, the Crusaders were known as the Jazz Crusaders and then, when they moved to Los Angeles in the 1970’s, they dropped the word 'jazz' from their name. They had some of the best musicians of the time, such as Joe Sample on piano, Larry Carlton on guitar and Wayne Henderson on trombone. You are really going to enjoy the selection of tunes chosen as Les and the band work their way through the Crusaders' history and introduce you to the rich tradition they had. Les will also talk about the Crusaders' influences, and who they eventually influenced.
