JazzFresno and the Fresno County Public Libraries host (free and open to the public) Jazz at the Library on Tuesday, January 20, 2015 at 7:00 p.m. at the Woodward Park Regional County Library located at 944 E. Perrin Ave. (Champlain & Perrin).

This months presentation is: “Listening Forward: Perspectives on Current and Future Directions in Jazz.” The guest presenter is world-renowned bassist Lisle Ellis.

At first listen, avant-garde jazz may sound like nothing more than a bunch of notes played randomly and without purpose. But there is much more to it. Get inside the mind of the musicians and learn their thought processes, and influences in a presentation titled “Listening Forward – Perspectives and Future Directions in Jazz,” a lecture, performance and discussion by the avant-garde Tower Jazz, consisting of pianist Ron Smith, bassist Lisle Ellis, and percussionist Gary Newmark that will include historical precedents and influence from jazz and other music and art forms.
