blue_street-1Dave Ruffner, trombonist and leader of the acclaimed Blue Street traditional jazz band tells the story of how New Orleans gave birth to the music we know today as jazz. "The Cradle of Jazz: How a river and a city brought the world jazz" examines the early and uniquely New Orleans music that developed in the Crescent City in the early 1900's and that sound spread quickly throughout the world, and continues to this day. How did a music that began in "houses of ill repute" spread to concert halls and universities throughout the world? Find out with this edition of Jazz @ the Library, which also will feature a performance by the Blue Street Jazz Band.
