One of the most significant jazz musicians of the past two decades, New Orleans born trumpeter Terence Blanchard honors the jazz tradition while forginging ahead with innovative new sounds with his talented band of young lions. A stunning trumpeter and prolific jazz composer, this GRAMMY award winner has also worked extensively in Hollywood as a film composer, including a long standing collaboration with director Spike Lee, with whom he recently collaborated with for the score of the 2006 thriller Inside Man. His new album Flow (2005), was produced by Herbie Hancock, and was a GRAMMY nominee for Best Jazz Instrumental Album, and Best Jazz Instrumental Solo. 

Terence will perform on Sunday July 2nd at 7:00pm at Fresno's historic Tower Theatre. He will also be a guest instructor for the CSU Summer Arts Program at Fresno State in a two week long Summer Arts course “The Complete Jazz Musician.”

Jazz Composers OrchestraThe Jazz Composers Orchestra brings together many of Fresno's finest jazz musicians in an all star big band format. Now in its third year, the JCO features original music by band members, as well as new material from some of the top large ensemble jazz composers active today. The JCO explores new sounds and approaches to the big band idiom and showcases the best of what the Valley's jazz scene has to offer. This December 4th, the perform their annual concert at Roger Rocka's Dinner Theatre. The show starts at 7:30pm. Tickets are $12 general, $10 JazzFresno members and $7 for students. February 9th at Roosevelt High Auditorium

Active Image JazzFresno presents trumpeter Gilbert Castellanos and his quintet, in concert at Fresno's Roosevelt High School Auditorium, Friday February 9th at 7:30pm. Gilbert grew up in Fresno, and attended Roosevelt School of the Arts. He is now one of the top trumpet players in Southern California, and in addition to leading his own group, is a member of the Clayton-Hamilton Jazz Orchestra. His most recent CD "Underground" was released by Seedling Records in summer 2006. A special pre-concert conversation with the artist will take place at 6:30pm.  This event is funded in part through a grant from the Community Enrichment Program, administered by the Fresno Arts Council.  Special thanks to the Roosevelt School of the Arts for their support of this concert.

Armen NalbandianOn Thursday September 28, 2006, at 7pm, Armen Nalbandian will present the first concert of the Rhythms of Art’s third concert season at the Fresno Art Museum's Bonner Auditorium. This concert will consist of new and exciting compositions by Nalbandian inspired by the visual art of sculptor Robert Brady.
