Friday March 31st - 7:00pm at the Fresno Art Museum

Join Armen Nalbandian and his trio (featuring Kevin Hill on bass and Brian Hamada on drums) for a special CD release concert at the Fresno Art Museum's Bonner Auditorium, Friday night, March 31st at 7:00pm. You'll hear live performances of selections from Armen's new studio cd, titled "Armen" which will be on sale at the concert. This concert was originally scheduled for Thursday March 30th, but was moved to accomodate Fresno City College's City Jazz Festival featuring Bob Mintzer. JazzFresno is a proud supporter of the Rhythms of Art Series at the Fresno Art Museum.

Featuring Bob Mintzer - March 30th

Fresno City College's annual jazz festival City Jazz 2006 will feature GRAMMY Award-winning New York saxophonist Bob Mintzer, Friday March 30th at 7:30pm. Bob has been a member of the well-known jazz quartet “Yellowjackets” for fifteen years. He also leads a very successful big band in New York. His compositions are played by professional and student groups all over the world. Bob’s most recent recordings are on the MCG Jazz label. His newest album "Old School, New Lessons" by the Bob Mintzer Big Band was released in February, 2006. 

Fresno City College has been the proud host of the City Jazz Festival since 1991. City Jazz is the largest and longest running non-competitive jazz festival in central California. Schools from all levels (elementary though university) from throughout the state enjoy the outstanding guest artists, clinics, adjudicators, scholarships, and emphasis on jazz education that the festival provides. Past festivals have featured guests like Bobby Shew, Ernie Watts, Jeff Hamilton, Anthony Wilson, Mike Manieri, Conrad Herwig, and many more. Over $100,000 in scholarships to various jazz programs has been awarded to outstanding student musicians.

Legacy of the Harlem Renaissance

As part of the Fresno City College 2006 African American History Month Celebration FCC and Jazz Fresno will present “Ask Your Mama: Twelve Moods for Jazz”, a multi-media concert based on a poetic masterwork by poet/playwright LANGSTON HUGHES, at the FCC Theatre on February 10th at 7:30.

Internationally recognized scholar Dr. Ron McCurdy Quartet will perform Hughes’ insightful, wise, poignant, funny and soulful, poem accompanied by a live jazz quartet, and video images of the Harlem Renaissance by African American artists and photographers including Jacob Lawrence, Gordon Parks and Romare Bearden. Ticket prices are $15 general and $10 for students.
