JCO flyer 2014The Jazz Composers Orchestra will perform its first concert of the year on Monday October 6, 2014 at 8:00 p.m. at the Fresno State Music Dept. Concert Hall.

Fans of the “JCO” know the band for its adventurous and original music. This season’s first concert continues that tradition, with world premiere arrangements from Joe Lewis and David Aus, plus works by Dirk Fischer, Dan Cavanagh, Jim McNeely, Alan Ferber, and Maria Schneider.

The Jazz Composers Orchestra is an all-star 19-piece ensemble directed by Mike Dana, head of the jazz studies program at Fresno City College. The roster (below) reads like a “who’s who” of jazz in the Valley. Members include music faculty at FCC, CSU Fresno, and many other valley schools. All play professionally as well, and have performed with an impressive lineup of jazz and pop artists.

Members of the JCO include:
Saxophones: John Ayala, Steve Dailey, Larry Honda, Paul Lucckesi, Steve Madden
Trumpets: Michael Caldwell, Scott Dean, Thomas Lake, Joe Lewis, Gavin Torgerson
Trombones: Adan Infante, Les Nunes, Eric Sherbon, Spencer Hannibal-Smith
