This months presentation is: “Marguth Sings Mercer.” Join jazz vocalist Karen Marguth as she celebrates the life and lyrics of Johnny Mercer, one of America’s most prolific and highly respected lyricists. Karen will share some of her favorite Mercer tunes, “Blues in the Night,” “I‘m Old Fashioned”, and “Come Rain or Come Shine” among them, and the stories behind them. You won’t want to miss this journey down the Great American Songbook highway!

This month's presentation is entitled “Electronics in Jazz: The Influence of Advancing Technology in Improvised Music.” The Kindred Trio, (Tim Shaghoian, Spee Kosloff, and Jason Fritts), discuss elements of electronics in jazz, such as: combining acoustic and electronic mediums in improvisation, the modern jazz musician and their adaptation to today's technology, and how jazz musicians utilize electronics to access their voice in new ways.

Dixieland JassJazzFresno and the Fresno County Public Libraries host (free and open to the public) Jazz at the Library on Tuesday September 16th, 2014 at 7:00 p.m. at the Woodward Park Regional County Library located at 944 E. Perrin Ave. (Champlain & Perrin).

This month's presentation is “Way Down in Dixie.” The 7-piece Sunnyside Jazz Band will perform a mix of traditional Dixieland tunes, swing titles, and some things in between!!!  The group is composed of 7 avid players who really enjoy the music (the band has been performing together for ten years!!!)

JazzFresno and the Fresno County Public Libraries host (free and open to the public) Jazz at the Library on Tuesday June 24th, 2014 at 7:00 p.m. at the Woodward Park Regional County Library located at 944 E. Perrin Ave. (Champlain & Perrin).

Albert Alva, director of the big band at Chapman University, who played sax and arranged music for Louie Bellson’s and Clark Terry's last big band album together in 2007, will give a presentation titled “The Tough Tenors.” The title of the program refers to the two tenor combo led by Eddie "Lockjaw" Davis & Johnny Griffin. The music of classic tenor saxophonists from Coleman Hawkins to Zoot Sims will be explored, including the history of the "Tenor Battle." A live performance will be included in the presentation.

JazzFresno and the Fresno County Public Libraries host (free and open to the public) Jazz at the Library on Tuesday May 20th, 2014 at 7:00 p.m. at the Woodward Park Regional County Library located at 944 E. Perrin Ave. (Champlain & Perrin).

Jazz guitar master Frank Potenza will host the evening by presenting Fresno’s first screening of “A Not So Average Joe,” a documentary on the legendary jazz guitarist, Joe Pass. This documentary has earned critical praise and was given a first-place award at the Los Angeles Art House Film Festival for Best Feature Film. The Jazz @ the Library presenter Frank Potenza, Chair of the Studio/Jazz Guitar Program at the USC Thornton School of Music, and a protégé of Joe Pass will talk about the making of the documentary in which Frank is prominently featured. Frank will perform live as well as play music from his tribute CD to Joe Pass, “For Joe.”
