Jazz @ the Library
A Brief History of the Jazz Drumset
Tuesday January 19th, 2010 - 7:00 PM
Featuring a talk and performance by Brian Hamada
From its origins in the early 1900s to the present day, the drum set is
arguably the first instrument to be invented to play jazz with. Its
evolution mirrors the timeline of the emerging American Musical art
form: Jazz. Focusing on the innovators of the instrument throughout
recordings and demonstrations of key rhythmic styles, we will present
an educational and vibrant overview of the foundation for all popular
music, the drum set.
