Every jazz performance, represents a symbiotic relationship among musicians, score, audience and environment in which, magically, the transcendent aggregate is greater than than the sum of its parts. Acclaimed photographer Thomas Ovalle will explain how he captures this process by sharing his photographs of jazz performances including the methodology he uses.

The event is open to the public, and will be an opportunity to learn more about JazzFresno's programs and activities. The event takes place prior to the Jazz @ the Library event at 7:00 PM.

Conversation With the Artist: Loren Pickford - Dec 9 2009

lorenfresno225Join JazzFresno on Wednesday night December 9th 2009 for a Conversation with the Artist event, featuring former Fresno based jazz musician Loren Pickford. The event takes place at 7:00 PM at the Fresno County Central Library's Sarah McCardle Room in Downtown Fresno. The event will feature a discussion with Loren, moderated by 90.7 KFSR's Joe Moore, and a question and answer period. The evening will be capped off with a duo performance by Loren Pickford and pianist David Aus. 

Loren Pickford will also be appearing in concert on Friday December 11th 2009 at the Club One Showroom at 8:00 PM.

JazzFresno presents Loren Pickford - Friday December 11 2009

lorenblue225 JazzFresno presents saxophonist Loren Pickford, in a rare return visit to his hometown of Fresno, in concert Friday December 11 2009 at the Club One Showroom. Joining Loren for this special event will be David Aus (piano); Kevin Hill (bass) and Gary Newmark (drums). For over 30 years, Loren was one of the most respected and influential jazz artists in Fresno. In the early 1990's he relocated to New Orleans, and has lived since 2005 in Kansas City, after fleeing Hurricane Katrina. This is his first Fresno performance in over two years.

In addition to his concert performance, Loren will also be the subject of a free Conversation With the Artist - Wednesday December 9th, 2009 at the Downtown Fresno Central Library at 7:00 PM. Joe Moore will host an open discussion with Loren, which will culminate in a duo performance with pianist David Aus.
