JazzFresno and the Fresno County Public Libraries host (free and open to the public) Jazz at the Library on Tuesday April 15th, 2014 at 7:00 p.m. at the Woodward Park Regional County Library located at 944 E. Perrin Ave. (Champlain & Perrin).
John Ayala (retired jazz director –Fresno Unified and adjunct faculty at Fresno City College) and Mike Dana (director of jazz studies @ Fresno City College) are going to be co-presenters at this months’ Jazz @ the Library, assisted by Pat Olvera (bass), Craig VonBerg (keyboard), and Brian Hamada (drums).
The topic is "Jazz-Fusion and Jazz-Rock." They will discuss the influences and history of fusing different styles of music with jazz. Also discussed will be the inclusion of electronics and its influence on Jazz. Some of the artists covered will be Miles Davis, Chick Corea and his Elektric Band, The Brecker Brothers, The Mahavishnu Orchestra, Jaco Pastorius, Herbie Hancock and the Headhunters, Weather Report, Blood, Sweat and Tears, Chase, Chicago and Frank Zappa amongst others. Included in this presentation and lecture will be a live demonstration of fusion styles.

Every Sunday at Ooi Japanese Cuisine
Local jazz educator, trombonist and occasional vocalist Les Nunes heads the lineup for the Sunday evening jazz jam sessions held weekly at Ooi Japanese Cuisine, located at 840 Herndon Ave., Clovis, CA 93612.
A rotating cadre of the area's best rhythm section players anchors the proceedings for the evening, and participation is highly encouraged. The music begins at 6:00pm.
